A standard psychology session lasts 50 minutes although the initial session may take a little longer. The Australia Psychological Society recommended fee for a standard consultation (2024-2025) by a Psychologist is $311. Our standard fee for a Clinical Psychologist is $275. Our standard fee for a Registered Psychologist is $225. Our standard fee for a Clinical Counsellor is $185-$200 ($225 for a couples, family or group session, $245 for an extended EMDR session).

If, for some reason you need to cancel or postpone the appointment, please give The Mind Lab at least 48-hours’ notice, otherwise you will be charged a cancellation fee of $50.00. Appointments that are cancelled with less than 24-hours' notice will incur a full fee. Please note that Medicare or health insurance rebates are not applicable to cancellation fees.
A $25 surcharge may be added to appointments outside of normal office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).
You can access a rebate from Medicare if you obtain a referral from a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or by direct referral from a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. A MHTP provides rebates for up to ten psychology sessions per calendar year (however the plan is reviewed after the first 6 sessions). Current Medicare rebates for Clinical Psychology are $141.85. Current Medicare rebates for Registered Psychology is $96.65.
Private health funds often offer rebates for clinical psychology, registered psychology or clinical counselling as part of their ancillary (extras) cover. Each insurer and plan is different, so you will need to contact your insurer to check if you are covered and to determine what rebate you can expect.
Psychology may be covered by workers' compensation or motor vehicle accident insurance. Please contact your provider to check if you are covered. If your claim is approved or pending, in most cases we can assist you by contacting your provider on your behalf.
